Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
While visiting his mother’s grave, lamenting his inability to save her when she was killed in a home invasion when he was a child, Barry Allen was alerted to a break-in at the Flash Museum by Top, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Captain Boomerang, and Mirror Master. Defeating them, he discovered they’d been hired by his arch-enemy Professor Zoom to lure him as part of a plan to destroy Central City. With the help of his Justice League allies, Allen foiled Zoom’s plot. However, Zoom taunted over the death of his mom but despite Batman’s urging not to let Zoom get to him, Allen ran off. The next day, he woke up to discover the world radically changed: his powers disappeared, his mother’s alive, his wife Iris was married to someone else, and the League didn’t exist. In this new timeline, Aquaman sunk most of Europe while Wonder Woman conquered Great Britain. The Atlanteans&Amazons were at war with one another after a failed attempt at peace resulted in Diana murdering Arthur’s wife [Mera]. [Government agent] Cyborg put together a team to end the feud by taking out the leaders&approached Batman to join them but he refused, so [pilot] Hal Jordan was assigned to fly an alien spacecraft in a bombing run on the Atlanteans. Allen visited Wayne Manor but was attacked by Batman, who wasn’t Bruce but his father Thomas. Attempting to explain things to an incredulous Wayne, Allen retrieved his costume from the ring in which it was kept but Zoom’s costumes appeared in its place, causing Allen to believe he’s responsible for changing history. Convinced to help Allen by the knowledge that his son lived in the original timeline, Batman helped recreate the accident that gave him his powers, only for Allen to wind up being severely burned. In London, Steve Trevor attempted to exfiltrate [undercover reporter] Lois Lane but was killed by Prince. In Paris, Deathstroke&Lex were killed by Black Manta, Aqualad, and Aquagirl while tracking the energy trail of the Atlanteans’ weapon: a weaponized Captain Atom. Realizing his memories were fading, the injured Allen insisted Batman recreate the accident again, this time resulting in the successful restoration of his powers. Even so, he found out he was unable to travel through time because there’s another person using Speed Force, preventing him to gather enough energy to break the time barrier. He seeked to recruit more fighters instead, beginning with Superman, who was a prisoner of the government after his ship crashed into Metropolis. Empowered by the sun, Clark held off attackers who confronted the group but flew off in fear. Flash collapsed as his memories continued to alter&was taken to the home of Billy Batson. Learning of the death of Green Lantern, Allen convinced Wayne to join them in an attempt to stop the war. Batson morphed into Captain Thunder to fight Prince while Flash, Cyborg, and Batman occupied Aquaman only for Bats to be gravely wounded. At this point, Zoom revealed himself&explained Allen was responsible for altering the timeline when he saved his mother, causing the fabric of reality to fracture. Wundy used her lasso to force Thunder to revert back to a boy to kill him&Kent arrived too late to save Vic from Aquaman, who gave the order to trigger the [Captain] Atom bomb. As the explosion teared across the landscape, Zoom mocked Flash when he was suddenly shot through the head by Batman, leaving Flash to be the only user of Speed Force. Before dying, he urged Allen to fix everything, giving him a letter addressed to his son. Allen raced back in time, reawakening to find that everything was back to normal. At the cave, Allen told Wayne everything that occurred&handed over the letter from his dad, prompting the tearful Dark Knight to tell him, “You’re one hell of a messenger.” :’)
